We are delighted to share that Immy, a passionate young cricketer from a Merstham primary school where we deliver Chance to Shine coaching, has been crowned Young Person of the Year (Schools) at the prestigious Chance to Shine Annual Awards 2025, held last night at Lord’s Cricket Ground. This special event marked the charity’s 20th anniversary and celebrated individuals who have made an outstanding impact through cricket in schools and communities.

Immy’s journey with cricket began in 2024 when she took part in Chance to Shine sessions at her school. Despite being one of the youngest participants, her enthusiasm and commitment quickly stood out. After her class sessions ended, Immy continued to attend lunchtime cricket clubs, showing a passion for the game that is truly remarkable for someone her age. Her skills developed rapidly, but even more inspiring was her personal growth—her confidence soared, and she became a supportive leader among her peers.

Immy’s love for cricket now extends far beyond school. She regularly attends girls’ and women’s days at Merstham Cricket Club, joins U8 sessions on Friday nights, and even spends weekends cheering on adult teams. One of the most touching moments came during “Dress Up as Someone Who Inspires You Day,” when Immy chose to dress as her coach, Daisy—a gesture that speaks volumes about the positive impact of Chance to Shine and the Surrey Cricket Foundation.

Coach Daisy Wicks, who nominated Immy for the award, said: “Immy’s passion for cricket is infectious. From the very first session, her enthusiasm and determination shone through. Watching her grow in confidence and become a role model for her classmates has been incredible. She truly embodies the spirit of Chance to Shine, and I couldn’t be prouder of her achievement.”

Immy embodies everything this award represents: dedication, passion, and the ability to inspire others. We couldn’t be prouder of her achievement and look forward to seeing her cricket journey continue to flourish.
