The Surrey Cricket Foundation is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the sport. This includes a robust DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checking process for volunteers.
JANUARY 2025
Important changes have been made to the DBS Update Service for volunteers.
Previously, volunteers only needed to confirm their continued role with the ECB annually, and their DBS certificate would be automatically renewed. However, the DBS Update Service now requires volunteers to log in to their account and renew their subscription on an annual basis.
What does this mean for volunteers?
You will receive two emails:
- An email from dbs@ecb.disclosures.co.uk titled “ECB DBS Expiry – Important Message – Action required” 30 days before your renewal date. This email reminds you to confirm your role and contact details with the ECB.
- An email from donotreply@dbs.gov.uk titled “FYI: Action required to renew your Update Service subscription” 30 days before your renewal date. This email prompts you to log in to your DBS Update Service account and renew your subscription.
Failure to renew your subscription will result in a lapsed DBS check. This means the ECB will not be able to verify your DBS status, and you will need to apply for a new DBS certificate (the DBS does not allow reinstatement of lapsed subscriptions).
What can volunteers do?
- Look out for the emails mentioned above and follow the instructions carefully.
- Refer to the full guide on the DBS Update Service, visit https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service
- If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact your Club Safeguarding Officer or the ECB Customer Support Team via the ECB DBS help desk https://ecbcs.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
We understand this change may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition. The ECB has taken steps to minimize disruption, including updating communication materials and proactively contacting individuals due for renewal.
The Surrey Cricket Foundation remains committed to safeguarding everyone in cricket. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact us.
