Another record year in Surrey

We are delighted to release our Impact Report for 2023, which highlights the array of work carried out across Surrey and south London, and spotlights our key successes throughout the year.

Through a range of partnerships and initiatives we were able to not only build on the participation successes seen in recent years, but also develop and deliver new programmes to broaden our reach. We also worked closely with clubs and community groups to support facility projects, train workforce, and underpin safeguarding across the network.

Some key findings of the report include:

  • In partnership with Chance to Shine, we delivered cricket coaching in schools to over 20,000 children. This is often a first experience of the sport for many of them.
  • Junior cricket saw another bumper year, with over 18,000 young people from over 1,500 teams taking part in the 2023 Surrey Junior Cricket Championship.
  • We saw yet further growth in the women and girls’ game within Surrey, with over 370 girls’ teams and over 120 women’s teams taking part in a range of formats.
  • Adult cricket is also thriving in Surrey, with 15,000 fixtures across the season.
  • Working with clubs and community groups, we distributed close to £300,000 of grant funding towards facilities projects and new site development across Surrey and south London.
  • Nearly 450 coaches were trained in 2023, including 135 females, enhancing the workforce across all formats of the recreational game in the county.
  • Disability Cricket has also seen growth in 2023. We reached over 1,350 children across all our projects, including at our annual Disability Day.
  • This year, supported by First Sentier Investors and several departments at The Kia Oval, we delivered an Employability Programme for young people with additional needs from Super 1s Programmes in Surrey. Participants benefited from CV writing and interview preparation workshops, mock interviews, and work experience.
  • Over 600 children in under served communities local to The Kia Oval received free Dynamos cricket sessions in 2023, through a pilot project funded by Sky.
  • Over 550 kids took part in our Street Cricket projects at 18 sites across south London.

Chris Coleman, Director of Cricket Participation in Surrey, said “It has been another fantastic year for the charity with much of the growth delivered in key focus areas such as juniors and women and girl’s cricket. We continue to be one of the leading counties in the country!”

Our thanks go to our sponsors and our partners who enable and support our work.
