The ECB recently launched a new entry-level umpiring course for 2024 which provides a basic foundation for new people to commence umpiring.

To help those who have completed this entry-level ECB entry course to develop further along their umpiring journey, the SACO (Surrey Association of Cricket Officials) will be running further training sessions.

These sessions will build on the entry-course and enable you to have the confidence and competence to go and umpire at appropriate levels within recreational cricket. These sessions are also suitable as refresher sessions for existing umpires.

These sessions will cover the Laws and their practical implementation on:

  • Session 1: Wickets and Runs – covering the full range of Dismissals and various ways in which Runs can be scored.
  • Session 2: the role of the Bowler, the Batter, the Fielder and the Wicket-keeper, and Match management including identifying and dealing with Unfair Play – Law 41 and Player Conduct – Law 42.
