After being left the “Last Man Standing” at 107 for 5 after 10.3 overs, Quantum Qalandars captain Kaif Ramzan guided his team through to victory with one ball to spare.
Things had looked much simpler earlier in the evening when GKT fell to 45 for 5, but a masterful inning of 70 from Josh Jayasingh, which only ended on the last available ball, took GKT to a competitive 126 all out in their 12 overs.
The Qalandars exceptional fielding was the highlight of the early part of the evening, with the return catch taken by Zikriya a particular highlight. That was not his only significant contribution to the evening, after the Qalandars had slipped to 54-4 themselves at the start of the 6th over, he helped Kaif take his team to 107 before being bowled in the 11th over and setting up the tense finale.
The GKT bowlers, especially the spinners Abullah Nazir and Krish Dhanuka, weaved a tantalising web in the middle of the 2nd innings and a straight six threaded through the ceiling equipment kept the spectators on tenterhooks.
The Qalandars progress to represent Surrey in the regional finals of the National Indoor Competition to play the winners from Kent or Sussex at the County ground at Hove on 16th March.
