An SJCC season which saw over 6000 games of cricket played, culminated in a week of finals, beginning on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Monday 26th August saw a bumper day of finals, with the Open Cup finals taking place at Valley End CC and the finals of the Under 17/19 competitions taking place at Normandy CC. A big thank you to both clubs for being excellent hosts. There was some excellent cricket played at both venues, with some nail-biting finishes, and well done to all teams competing. Congratulations to all our cup winners, who are detailed in the table below.
Tuesday 27th saw a strong bowling performance from Reigate Priory, as they won the final of the Girl’s Under 16-18 Hundred Cup, dismissing East Molesey for just 33, before chasing the total down, in a game played in excellent spirits by both sides.
Thursday 29th saw the turn of Reigate Priory to host the Girls Under 10/11, Under 12/13 and Under 15/15 Hundred Cup Finals. The first game was a tight affair, with Richmond successfully defending 66 to win the Under 10/11 cup against Streatham & Marlborough in an excellent game of cricket. The second game was equally close fought, Banstead overcoming Sunbury’s 122 with 5 wickets and less than 10 balls to spare in the Under 12/13 final. The final match of the day saw Ashtead recover from the loss of 4 early wickets to post a healthy total of 134 in the Under 14/15 competition. Despite positive batting throughout Esher fell a little short ending on 107, in another game played in excellent spirits.
A big thank you to all the officials (Umpires and Scorers) who helped make each final a success, and to all the volunteers within the SJCC and club network for their time and effort in ensuring games get played. Also to all of our host clubs who have done an excellent job in making everyone feel welcome at the finals.
We all look forward to next season and in the meantime the finals keep coming, with the Trust Tier 1 and Trust Tier 2 finals taking place on Sunday 1st September at Leatherhead CC and Merstham CC, respectively. Lastly we wish Esher Under 15’s the best of luck as they travel to Lords on 14th September to face Dorridge CC in the national final of the ECB Under 15 cup competition.
