Across the summer, we worked in partnership with the Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) to deliver the “Southwark Loop” summer holiday camp held at the Marlborough Sports Garden (MSG).
This initiative, funded by the Foundation, provided free places for children from low-income families, delivering a fun and enriching experience that aligns perfectly with our strategic goals.
Through financial support, the Surrey Cricket Foundation enabled 89 children to participate in the camp at no cost, this is in line with our commitment to increase accessibility and participation for those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
The camp offered a dynamic mix of activities, including cricket sessions led by Surrey Cricket Foundation coaches, alongside multi-sport activities, art workshops, roller-skating, beach tennis, and even a visit from Olympic silver medalist Adam Burgess!
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Children reported feeling fitter, healthier, and more confident. They learned new skills, made new friends, and discovered a love for physical activity. “This summer at MSG has been amazing… You get fitter and become more active,” said one participant. Another shared, “I had loads of fun. I made new friends. I learned new sports and games…”
The program wasn’t just beneficial to the children. LSBU Sports Ambassadors, who led the activities, gained valuable coaching experience, aligning with our goal of nurturing the next generation of sports enthusiasts.
“We are thrilled with the success of the Southwark Loop camp,” commented Harjot Sidhu, Surrey Cricket Foundation’s Inclusion and Diversity Officer. “By investing in programmes such as this, we’re not just fostering a love for sports but fostering healthier communities and building a brighter future for young people.”
