The Surrey and GB Wheelchair Cricket Weekend, held on 12th and 13th July, was hailed a resounding success by players, coaches, and spectators alike.
The two-day event showcased exceptional talent and camaraderie as players from Surrey and the wider GB squad came together to train, refine playing conditions and compete in a tournament. Coaches Alain Jason and Simon Carter praised the high standard of play, highlighting the variety of bowling options and aggressive batting. Fielding was particularly impressive, demonstrating the players’ agility and focus.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the two days,” said Russel Carter, Wheelchair Cricket lead in Surrey. “Bringing in new players and having more counties involved was fantastic.”
The weekend also attracted interest from the wider community, with numerous visitors attending both days. As the sport continues to grow, events like this are crucial in providing opportunities for wheelchair cricketers to develop and showcase their talent.
The GB team was managed by Alain Jason and captained by Russ Carter, while the Surrey team was managed by Simon Carter and captained by Lottie Chatfield. Both teams displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the weekend – congratulations to all involved.
