The Surrey Cricket Foundation welcomed more than 200 women to The Kia Oval, on Saturday 9th May for ‘Super Saturday 2026’, delivering a vibrant day of learning, participation and community on the iconic outfield.
Designed to grow and strengthen the women’s game, the event brought teams together not only to compete, but also to develop their skills and confidence off the pitch. The morning focused on education and development, with over 100 participants taking part in a series of workshops delivered by the Foundation alongside a network of coach developers, qualified umpires and other expert tutors. Sessions included umpiring, scoring, an ECB Support Coach course and a Changemaker workshop, providing valuable opportunities for women to gain new skills and take on greater roles within the game.
The day was proudly sponsored by Lacuna Sports, a brand dedicated to advancing the women and girls’ game through innovative, female-focused cricket apparel. Lacuna representatives were on site throughout the event, engaging directly with participants and showcasing their specially designed kit, reinforcing their commitment to supporting the growth of women’s cricket at all levels.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the outfield, where participants took part in a fun and high-energy softball cricket tournament. With excitement building ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup coming to England in 2026, the competition adopted a World Cup theme, with each team representing a different nation. Lacuna Sports helped bring this theme to life by providing every team with bespoke ‘TieBandz’ hairbands in their country colours.
This year’s event was expanded to have an even greater impact. Following last year’s tournament being cancelled due to rain, a separate competition was hosted in the morning for those affected teams, running alongside the workshop programme for the new cohort. This meant that more than 200 women were given the opportunity to play on The Kia Oval outfield across the day, making Super Saturday 2026 one of the Foundation’s largest and most inclusive women’s participation events to date.
After a series of competitive and spirited matches, Dulwich CC’s women’s team were crowned champions of the afternoon tournament. As part of Lacuna Sports’ support, the winners received a bespoke teamwear prize including ten custom-designed team tops, a coach top and an in-person fitting session, giving them the opportunity to create a kit tailored specifically to their team.
Reflecting on the day, Emily Patterson said:
“Super Saturday 2026 was an incredible celebration of women’s cricket, bringing together players of all backgrounds to learn, play and connect. It was fantastic to see over 200 women enjoying The Kia Oval outfield, especially with the added opportunity for last year’s teams to take part after the weather disruption. A huge thank you to Lacuna Sports for their fantastic support of the day, their commitment to the women’s game, from providing bespoke Tiebandz to the winning team’s kit prize, helped make the experience even more special for everyone involved.”
Events like Super Saturday continue to play an important role in widening access to cricket, creating more opportunities for women and girls to get involved both on and off the pitch, and supporting the Surrey Cricket Foundation’s aim of making the game more inclusive, accessible and impactful across the region.
