The Surrey Cricket Foundation’s S9 Disability team enjoyed a successful summer, participating in four festivals across the South East of England. The team, comprised of players with a range of disabilities, competed in a total of eight matches, winning four and losing four.
The team kicked off their campaign in Sussex, where they faced a strong local side and a combined Hampshire and Kent team. Despite a loss to the Sussex team, they bounced back with a victory over the combined Hampshire and Kent side.
In Hampshire, the Surrey team faced tough competition from the host county and Sussex, learning valuable lessons about fielding and teamwork. However, they were able to turn things around in Kent, securing wins over both Kent and Sussex.
The Surrey S9 team’s home festival at Spencer saw them defeat Sussex in a thrilling super over, but ultimately fell short against Hampshire.
The team’s success was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players. Many of the team members, both male and female, have significantly improved their cricketing skills over the summer. The team also welcomed several new players, who were made to feel at home and contributed positively to the squad.
Caroline Robinson, Surrey Cricket Foundation’s Disability Development Officer, praised the team’s performance. “It’s been fantastic to see the progress our S9 team has made this summer,” she said. “The players have shown great resilience and determination, and their commitment to the sport is inspiring. We’re incredibly proud of their achievements.”
The Surrey Cricket Foundation would like to thank Sussex, Kent, and Hampshire for hosting the festivals, as well as the coaches, families, carers, and players for their support and dedication.
