My name is Tonika Campbell, and I am the new Anti-Discrimination Officer at Surrey Cricket Foundation. As the new Anti-Discrimination officer, I will be the point of contact for any discrimination questions, queries, allegations or concerns.

Background:
I have joined Surrey Cricket Foundation coming from policing as a detective, working in a range of different areas from Sexual Offences, CID, Child Abuse and Domestic Abuse. Within my role as a detective, I was also the general secretary of the Culture and Ethnicity Association and I was the portfolio lead for the national Women of Colour in Policing within my force. Outside of policing I also work with various different councils and charities supporting asylum seekers, looked after children and care leavers, homeless youth and young people leaving prison and within the probation service.

What does the role mean? And how does that impact me?
Within my capacity as the Anti-Discrimination Officer, I will be responding to allegations of discrimination in line with the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code and the Equality Act. Whilst the ECB specifically focuses on discrimination in reference to age, disability, race, gender, gender assignment, religion/belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy/maternity, marriage and civil relationship, and socio-economic status or background; I would encourage anybody who feels as though they have been discriminated against or witnessed discrimination – directly, indirectly, victimised or harassed – to reach out to me.

I feel it is important that everybody feels comfortable, safe and supported to voice their concerns non-judgmentally and inclusively.

I hope that the recognition for this new role brings clarity and awareness for the need, and importance of the role.

Alongside allegations and investigations, across my role, I will also be implementing a more proactive approach to education, recognition and awareness of discrimination, microaggressions and professional, and inclusive practices.
So, any questions, concerns or queries, please get in touch.

What do you do for fun?
I am very big on family and spend a lot of time with my sisters, nieces and nephew but I am also a big fitness fanatic and go to the gym at least 5 times a week. In my previous role as a police officer, that would sometimes mean 4am or 5am gym sessions!

What is your favourite quote?
“Stretching his hand to see the stars, too often man forgets the flowers at his feet” – Jeremy Bentham.

What would you tell your 12-year-old self?
You’re going to make mistakes, and that’s fine. It’s the journey that is important, not the end goal! And enjoy being a child; adulting is hard!

What is your ultimate holiday destination?
Hawaii! Or anywhere that is zen, with hot weather and a beautiful beach!
