The England Over‑70s have enjoyed a remarkable start to 2026, securing both the Silver Ashes in Australia and going on to win the Over‑70s World Cup in New Zealand.
At the heart of these successes is Chris Evans of Ashford Cricket Club, whose contributions have been crucial throughout the tour.
During the Silver Ashes, Evans played a key role in England’s retention of the trophy, including forming a vital 95‑run partnership with captain John Evans in scorching 36°C heat at Howell Oval in Sydney. This stand proved decisive in helping England regain control and seal the series victory.
In the World Cup final against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on 5t March, Evans delivered a standout performance, scoring 79 from 76 deliveries to anchor England’s innings — a crucial contribution as the team went on to be crowned World Champions.
Alongside his international achievements, Chris is also a respected figure in Surrey cricket. He serves as the fixtures and results lead for the Surrey Cricket Championship, represents Ashford CC, and plays for both the Surrey Over‑60s and Surrey Over‑70s sides.
Chris Evans’ performances and service to cricket make this a proud moment for Ashford CC and the wider Surrey Cricket Foundation community.
