As the season ends, we have been undertaking a series of consultation events linked with the ongoing discussions around the creation of a new, merged league, in Surrey.

Working with the Surrey County League, AJ Sport Surrey Championship and the Surrey Cricket League we hosted 4 face to face events along with an online event on the 13th November.

The consultation events were open to players and club committee members from clubs playing in ALL leagues across Surrey and we welcomed around 160 people across the 5 events. The dates for the events were:

  • Monday 30th October – 7.30-9.30pm at Ashtead CC
  • Wednesday 1st November – 7.45-9.45pm at Merstham CC
  • Tuesday 7th November – 7.30-9.30pm at Wimbledon CC
  • Thursday 9th November – 7.30-9.30pm at Chobham CC
  • Monday 13th November – 7.30-9.30pm Online

The recording of the online consultation session can be found below and a copy of the presentation, the prospectus and the player survey data set which has informed the emerging thinking around playing conditions can be found at the bottom of this page:

We have now published a prospectus document which provides some background on the project’s progress to date along with some emerging thinking around what a new league structure could look like.

We will be hoping that this document provokes some thinking so you can come to the consultation events with any questions and feedback you might have about the progress made to date.

League Merger Update – May 2024

Following the winter consultation the senior leagues merger steering group made a commitment to ensure that clubs knew what they were playing for in 2024 ahead of the start of the 2025 season in what will be the Surrey Cricket Championship if all goes to plan.

This structure has now been finalised and can be accessed at the bottom of the page . Please note the following key points relating to the structure:

  • Every team (within the Surrey Championship, Surrey County League, and Surrey Cricket League) is playing for something in terms of the move into the Surrey Cricket Championship in 2025 whether that be moving up a division or remaining in a current corresponding division within the new structure.
  • Promotion and relegation will be applied to the exiting league tables on 30th Sep 2024; with the new tables as of 1st Oct 2024 used to generate the new unified league structure, to be ratified at the inaugural Surrey Cricket Championship AGM.
  • The gaps in the structure are there indicatively based on the expressions of interest that have been received from teams/clubs in other leagues. Should these teams not enter the new structure teams would simply move up accordingly where necessary.
  • The structure is subject to small changes dependent on the final entries which will not be known until the Autumn, but we will seek to minimise this as far as reasonably possible.

Please share this information with your players over the coming weeks to ensure that everyone knows what is at stake in 2024.

We will soon be releasing a new electronic prospectus document that includes updates on various elements of the merger plans and importantly includes a player survey for players playing in the Surrey Championship, the Surrey County League and the Surrey Cricket League seeking final feedback on the playing conditions and plans for the merger. We plan for the survey to be open for two weeks coinciding with the start of the Surrey Championship and Surrey County League season.
