Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. As well as the physical benefits of regular activity, Chance to Shine believe cricket can be used to teach children key life skills that will help them beyond the playground. Through the values of cricket, we teach children about respect and fair play, as well as developing skills such as communication, leadership, and perseverance that will benefit them throughout their life.
Whole Schools Programmes: A Chance to Shine whole schools’ programme provides coaching across a term within schools, delivering sessions once a week for a 5–7-week period. This can span a full day with 5 hours of coaching delivered to 5 different classes, or across a morning or afternoon session with 3 classes targeted. Schools are generally assigned a coach who leads all the sessions, allowing for the coach to build a rapport with the teachers and students within the school. We encourage teachers to get involved in the cricket sessions, to upskill them and improve their confidence when coaching cricket.
Cricket Engagement Days: During a Chance to Shine cricket engagement day, our coaches will run a series of fun ‘taster’ sessions aiming to target each class in the school across a single day.
Teacher Training: Chance to Shine does not only coach the children, but also has a keen interest in developing the skills of teachers to enhance their confidence when coaching cricket. We can send coaches to your school to lead training sessions where teachers are provided with tips and advice which they can implement in future lessons.
The Chance to Shine Portal: Chance to Shine have created an online portal which provides a wealth of free resources for primary and secondary schools which can assist teachers with leading their own cricket sessions confidently. These resources include lesson plans for cricket sessions, instructional videos for skills and drills, and top tips from professionals!
