Across three Sundays in January, alongside Valley End Rascals and Russell Carter, Chair of Sanderstead CC, the Surrey Cricket Foundation were involved in the delivery of three pilot Wheelchair Cricket sessions at Eastwood Leisure Centre in Woking.
The purpose of the sessions was to work with cricketers (and would-be cricketers) who are wheelchair users to devise an enjoyable and coherent format of the game. We were delighted to be joined by Richard Hill from the ECB and Peter Gossage from the Wheelchair Cricket Association. Across the three weeks 10 potential players aged between 8-60 attended the sessions, and all had great fun and gave us invaluable feedback.
The intention is to now use this feedback to take the game forward, with Valley End Rascals intending to offer monthly sessions alongside the weekly Super 1’s Inclusive Cricket programme that they already host.
Additionally, we're pleased to add Wheelchair Cricket to our Disability Day programme at The Oval on May 15th.
