Huge congratulations to Ashford Ladies who denied Reigate an indoor double in a tight final!
Sunday 10th December saw the finals day of the Women's Pre Christmas Smash It competition, with teams from Twickenham, Ashford, Shepperton and Reigate Priory aiming to become champions of Surrey.
The first semi final proved to be a high scoring affair, with Ashford prevailing having scored 293 to Twickenhams 280. The second semi final was less tight with Reigate Priory (275) easing past Shepperton (215).
Batting appeared to be the order of the day, as the 3rd / 4th Play Off also saw plenty of runs! Batting first Twickenham amassed a huge total of 291, but Shepperton pushed them all the way, finishing on 275 to lose by just 16 runs. Shepperton finishing fourth and Twickenham third in the final standings.
Onto the final and Reigate Priory won the toss and elected to bowl first, however a very strong batting performance from Ashford saw them total 285 from their 6 overs, despite the 'catch of the tournament' from Sophie Pout. In reply Reigate matched Ashford stride for stride, but some great bowling in the middle overs meant that the last pair needed to score 36 from two overs, and 22 off the last. Despite hitting two sixes off the last two balls Reigate fell just 2 runs short to finish runners up, meaning Ashford became champions after an excellent all round performance.
Huge congratulations to Ashford on becoming county champions, and a big thank you to all those teams, participants and supporters who make this competition great. A special mention of thanks goes to Sharon Eyers for umpiring throughout the competition and making sure everyone had a wonderful time!
We look forward to another successful season in 2018.
