Surrey up to Second in Table After Victory.
Following their hard fought draw at leaders Hereford Bulldogs, Surrey’s Visually Impaired team began a series of four home games with the visit of Metro Devils to Frimley CC.
Winning the toss the game continued with a common theme, Surrey keeping the openers in check without making the much needed break through. Eventually the Surrey pressure did pay off as Samuels was run out with the score on 73, and then Moritz bowled by Ralph 13 runs later. A blustering 51 from Lewis gave the visitors some momentum however Surrey struck back with four quick wickets leaving Metro to post 194-6.
Ralph and Khan opened for Surrey, keeping the required run rate in sight with controlled and sensible batting. Ralph was eventually bowled for 35, ad Khan for 36 and the loss of Claridge for no score gave the home side some concern. However a masterful innings of 28 not out from kumrai (including an all-run 5) joining the impressive Turner settled the home sides nerves. With two overs to spare Lois Turner pulled a short ball to the mid wicket boundary bringing up her own 50 and winning the game for Surrey.
There was more good news as Gloucestershire’s game with Berkshire being called off meant Surrey are now 2nd in the table, far exceeding any expectations in their debut season.
This Sunday Metro will again be the visitors for the T20 Cup quarter final before a much anticipated local derby with Hampshire on 28th June
