Inspiring the next generation of girls
In line with our commitment to develop the women & girls’ game across the county, we recently took The Hundred trophy on a six-week tour to schools across Surrey, where our community cricket coaches, including winning Oval Invincibles player Rhianna Southby, delivered cricket sessions to girls and let them get up close to the trophy itself!
The tour included a series of taster days and roadshows, with the latter taking place in Camberley, Beddington/Banstead, Woking, Elmbridge & Reigate. Twenty-two schools brought girls along to the roadshows and our coaches also visited ten primary schools to deliver taster days where girls were given the opportunity to try some cricket activities, see the Hundred Trophy and meet Rhianna. Surrey and Oval Invincibles player Alice Capsey also joined one of the events, getting involved with the coaching sessions and answering questions.
In total we engaged with over 2000 children during the tour, sign posting them to All Stars & Dynamos centres local to them, as well as giving them an exciting goody bag. Feedback has been positive, with one teacher commenting “It was fabulous on Friday - the girls loved it all!!! (and came to the disco that evening, at school, wearing their sunglasses!!)”
Thank you to our community coaches for all of their hard work delivering these sessions, and thank you also to Alice Capsey for taking part.
