A number of competitions reached their conclusion in the last week of August
Bank holiday Monday 28th August, saw the showcase day of the SJCC season, with the finals of 8 open cup competitions taking place at Valley End CC, as well as the U19 T20 finals day taking place at Normandy CC. There was some excellent cricket played across the day at both venues, all in an excellent spirit, and it was a great celebration of a season which saw 18,138 participants from 1525 teams take part in 5960 matches within the competition. The number of participants and teams being the highest since the SJCC's inception.
Congratulations to all clubs who took part on the day, and to the winners:
The finals weren’t finished there however, with the culmination of the U17 T20 competition taking place on Tuesday 29th. Two excellent close fought matches ensued, with Chobham winning the cup competition by two wickets against Weybridge, and Sutton defeating Guildford by 9 runs in the plate competition.
Wednesday 30th saw the turn of the girls, with the finals of the Hundred cup competitions taking place at Reigate Priory CC, Ashtead having a good day, defeating Ham & Petersham in the U10-U11 final and Banstead in the U12-U13 finals to pick up two trophies. Chobham followed up their U17 open success to win the U14-U16 final against Reigate Priory on the penultimate ball of an exciting game.
Mark Babb, SJCC Competitions Officer stated 'it was great to see a number of fantastic matches played in excellent spirit during the finals day week, echoing what I have seen across the county during the season. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the league sponsors AJ Sports for all of their help across the grassroots game this season.'
The SJCC would like to thank all venues, umpires, team managers and scorers for making these finals truly enjoyable days, and a fitting culmination to the season across the respective age groups.
As we enter September, attention turns to the Surrey Trust League, with Reigate Priory taking on East Molesey in the Tier 1 cup final on Sunday 3rd September, Weybridge taking on Sutton for the Wasim Raja Shield on the same day. The 10th September sees the final games of a busy season with Old Hamptonians taking on Leatherhead in the Tier 2 final at Horley and Spencer Academy 2nd X1 taking on Chessington in the Tier 3 final at Milford CC.
A great way to end an excellent season and congratulations to all who took part.
