Over 170 participants competed at finals at Sunbury CC
Wednesday 13th July saw over 170 participants from 17 teams descend on Sunbury CC for the finals of the year 5 Kwik cricket competition. Congratulations to the following schools for reaching the finals:
Rowledge, Winterbourne, Oakfield, Sheringdale, Chennestone, Cleves, Granton, St Annes, Bushy Hills, Fern Hill, Cuddington Croft, Pirbright, Dundonald, Ravenscote, Banstead Juniors, Westbourne, St Marys
On a pleasant day there was some excellent cricket on show, in particular some brilliant catches being taken. Following the group stages in the morning the teams were split into three different competitions dependent on where they finished in the morning session:
The Shield competition was played as a round robin, with Westbourne (Sutton) winning 3 of their 4 games to finish runners up. The clear winners however were Oakfield (Mole Valley) who won all four of their games finishing with a plus 128 run difference to win the Shield competition.
The Plate and Trophy competitions saw the 6 teams in each competition split into two groups of three, with the winners of each group competing in a final to decide the winner.
In the plate competition Rowledge (Waverley) and Winterbourne (Croydon) faced off in the final having won their groups. In a close game Rowledge batting first scored a healthy 256, in reply Winterbourne required 5 from the last over and achieved this with ease, scoring 16 runs to win the plate competition by 11 runs.
The main Trophy final saw Pirbright (Woking) take on Sheringdale (Wandsworth), with both teams having been excellent throughout the day. In the end Pirbright proved too strong and won a comfortable final by 35 runs to become Surrey Champions.
A big congratulations to all competitors, in particular our three winners:
Oakfield (Shield); Winterbourne (Plate); Pirbright (Trophy)
We would like to thank Sunbury CC for their excellent hospitality, in particular Dave Smith for all of his help before and during the event. We would also like to thank our coaches for being excellent and impartial umpires and scorers. Lastly we would like to thank all of the parents and teachers for giving up their time to bring their children to these competitions.
