Hundreds of volunteers took to the grounds of Streatham & Marlborough cricket club on Friday 31st March to help get the club ready for the upcoming season through the ECB’s annual volunteer programme, NatWest CricketForce.
Featured as the national showcase for 2017, members of Streatham & Marlborough CC, Surrey Cricket and the ECB donned their overalls and picked up their paintbrushes to work together to improve the club’s facilities with the help of England stars Steven Finn, Zafar Ansari and Surrey spinner Amar Virdi.
With many projects, both inside and outside of the clubhouse, volunteers split into groups to complete kitchen and bathroom refurbs, painting of changing rooms and clearing of the bank out on the edge of both pitches, first in gloomy March weather and then in beautiful spring sunshine.
It wasn’t all for the adults, however, with Surrey Cricket Foundation community coaches Chris, George and John providing fun coaching sessions for local school children. Complete with their very own NatWest CricketForce t-shirts and Surrey flags, they had the chance to ask questions to Surrey duo Ansari and Virdi before joining Steven Finn for an autograph session.
Huge thank you to every volunteer who gave up their time and worked hard throughout the day to help transform Streatham & Marlborough CC. Additional thanks to the Jolly Hog and Kia Oval Events for supplying breakfast, lunch and refreshments to all the hungry workers throughout the day.
We’ll see you again next year!
