Hosts lift the trophy at County Finals
Wednesday 6th March saw George Abbot School host the county finals of the Lady Taverners U13 Secondary School indoor competition. The day saw 6 schools, who had each won their local area competition, attend to compete to become county champions of 2019. The schools were split into two groups of three, and following a competitive group stage, full of excellent cricket, Woldingham (South East), George Abbot (South West), Wallington Girls (Outer London) and Broomwood Hall (Inner London) advanced to the semi-finals, with Fullbrook (North West) and Hinchley Wood (North East) being eliminated.
The semi-finals provided similar entertainment, and continued the excellent cricket played, with George Abbot and Woldingham eventually proving too strong for Wallington Girls and Broomwood Hall, although credit should be given to Broomwood Hall who were represented by several younger girls who acquitted themselves well at the finals.
The final itself, saw some excellent cricket by both sides, with George Abbot playing clever cricket during their innings batting first. This was backed up by some disciplined line and length bowling which saw them run out deserved winners to become Champions of Surrey for 2019. George Abbot will now advance to represent Surrey in the regional finals taking place in Middlesex at the end of April.
An excellent day’s cricket and we would like to thank all of those who contributed to the day, including the participants, teachers and our coaches for umpiring throughout.
