Tape ball competition a hit at the Kia Oval
On Boxing Day Surrey Cricket Foundation celebrated the first Boxing Day Cricket Bonanza at the Kia Oval as over 100 players from across London came together to play tape ball cricket at the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre. Eight teams from across our Street Young Adult and Diverse Communities Leagues participated in an all-day competition, that what was played in fantastic spirit.
Congratulations to Truthful Thoughts (Khudam Cricket League) for winning the Competition with the young Elite Tigers (Elite Premier Cricket League) runners up. Many of the Elite Tigers team have previously represented South London in the ECB City Cup Competition which was fantastic to see. The competition also attracted coverage from the media with Channel UK44 in attendance during the day. Given the success of the day the Foundation will be looking into running further Boxing Day Bonanzas in future years.
Participation Officer, Sajid Patel, said βIt was great to see so many players come together for the first Boxing Day Bonanza competition at the Kia Oval. We witnessed over 100 players competing in a fantastic spirit throughout the day and hope to see this initiative grow in the future. I would like to thank Prabit Nair, his team of volunteers, all the players, teams, coaches and umpires for making the day a real success as this would not been possible without their commitment and dedication and I am sure everyone heads into 2019 incredibly excited about the cricket that is going to be played.β
