Helping to get carers into sport!
We are delighted to announce that Action for Carers Surrey and the Diocese of Guildford are working with Surrey Cricket Foundation, Surrey Football Association and the Surrey Rugby Association, in a new partnership which aims to help get carers into sport.
This follows our previous successful joint working, including access to county cricket matches, free tickets and mascot roles with Surrey football teams. This partnership will allow Action for Carers to leverage the significant networks these organisations have, raise awareness and reach more of Surrey's 115,000 unpaid carers.
Carers often suffer poor mental and physical health because of their caring role. However, evidence shows that taking part in physical activity can lead to improvements in wellbeing. Carers can improve their physical health, get a huge boost to their mental health, enjoy learning something new, and benefit from the many social aspects of group sport.
The Reverend Clive Richardson said "the partnership with Surrey CCC is a terrific opportunity and a memorable experience for carers and young carers. This will bring recognition of carers and their needs, and give them a real boost through the opportunity to do something very special."
We will shortly announce a range of events and activities for Surrey's carers taking place in 2020 and beyond - giving carers the chance to learn new sports, get coaching to develop their skills - and have the opportunity to do something for themselves, away from their caring role.
