Disability Day Cricket
This year the Surrey Cricket Foundation will be holding their annual Disability Day at the Kia Oval on Thursday 5th May 2016. We would like to invite all schools and clubs to attend this years event for what promises to be a very special day.
Disabilities day aims to inspire Surrey and South London based disabled children to take up cricket and to promote disability cricket opportunities in Surrey and South London.
Following last year’s success with Visually Impaired cricket being the centre piece of the day, this year’s focus will be on Deaf and hearing impaired cricket. Although this is the main event, the day will have cricket activities available for all ranges of disability on the spectrum making it a fully inclusive and fun day for everyone.
The activities will include batting, bowling and fielding stations, visually impaired cricket, deaf and table cricket. These sessions will take place on the outfield of the Kia Oval and will be run by fully qualified Surrey Cricket Foundation coaches with the help of coaches and organisers from the Surrey County Disability cricket sides (Learning & Physical, Visually Impaired and Hearing Impaired).
If you would like to book on to the day please contact Tom Hilson here.
Disability Day Lunch
In addition to the cricket on show, the day will also include a fundraising lunch that will begin at around 12 in the John Major Room at the Kia Oval.
The lunch will be hosted by Gold Medal winning Paralympian, Rachel Morris. Rachel is on course to make her third Paralympic Games appearance at Rio 2016 – but her first in a boat. The double amputee enjoyed a successful career as a hand-cyclist, winning time trial gold at Beijing 2008 and a bronze medal in the road race at London 2012. Seeking a new challenge, Rachel transferred to rowing in 2013 and has qualified for the arms-shoulders women’s single scull boat for Rio 2016.
The lunch will consist of a three course meal at a cost of £75 per person. The money raised from this lunch will be used to support and develop disability cricket in the county of Surrey and South London.
To book a place at this lunch or for further information please contact Harry Ellis on hellis@surreycricket.com or 0207 820 5666
This promises to be a fantastic day so don't miss out, sign up and we hope to see you here at the Kia Oval on the 5th May.
